Olive Oil

Olive oil is a cold pressed olive juice. It's one of the most healthiest oil and an excellent alternative to butter and ghee.OLIVE OIL CAN BE USED again and again if not smoked. Because of its high smoke point of 190 degree C, it can be re-used after filtering using a paper filter.

 There is a wide variety of olive oils available in the market, to choose from

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil has the strongest aroma of all, very good for health as it has lowest acidic level.
  • Fine Virgin Olive Oil, as good as its previous version in taste but has higher acidic level.
  • Normal Olive Oil, obtained from a mix of refined olive oil and a grade of olive oil which comes between Extra Virgin and Virgin olive oil.
     It's tastes good too, but not rated high on colour.
  • Pomac Olive oil, This is a blend of Extra Virgin Oilve Oil and the extract obtained from olive residue paste called pomace.It's cheaper and adequate for cooking.
  • Pure Olive Oil, lacks the strong flavour, a blend of refined Olive Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Health wise, olive oil is known to reduce risks from heart disease as it is highest in monounsaturated fat. This type of fat is known to lower blood cholestrol levels. Olive Oil is rich in anti - oxidants. Its easily absorbed by body along with Vitamin E.

The best ways to use the diffrent olive oils: 

USE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL as condiments, or use it in salads, dressings, boiled vegetables and cooked dishes to make them taste exotic. Do not use it for frying as it may change the tastes which is not desirable.

PURE OLIVE OIL IS BEST for stir-fries, baking, stews and sautes, but cannot be used for deep frying as it's heavy.

POMACE OLIVE OIL IS BEST for cooking,deep frying because of its comparitively mild flavour which means the flavour of spices and other ingredients are mainitained

WHILE SAUETING with olive oil,  the food must be as dry as possible and olive oil should sizzle when the food hits the pan.

OLIVE OIL CAN BE used in marinades for meat or fish.

OTHER IMPORTANT FACTS ABOUT OLIVE OIL:

  1. Olive Oil must be stored in glass containers or non - reactive metal  such as stainless  steel containers.
  2. Store away from direct sunlight at normal room temperature.
  3. Store in a tightly-capped or sealed container otherwise the oil may oxidize. It must be used within 2-3 months from purchasing.
